What is Invisalign?
Have you ever been on a first date or job interview where you want to make a great first impression but feel completely self-conscious about something? Whether it is your wrinkled shirt, your scuffed shoes, or your crooked teeth, you feel completely distracted.
Truth be told, people will naturally gravitate to your smile first. Don’t let malocclusion, or crooked teeth, taint your confidence. Invisalign is here to help! Dana Keith DDS & Candace Kwakye DDS can help patients in and around Silver Spring and Cloverly, MD achieve their smile goals.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Your smile is one feature that elicits the most immediate and positive reaction from others. If you want a beautiful smile, without the hassle of braces, Invisalign is the perfect solution for you. It is an effective way to perfect your smile without unsightly brackets and bands. These removable, clear aligners gradually pull your teeth into position without fuss. It is an invisible and comfortable orthodontic treatment! Benefits include:
- More efficient biting, chewing, and speaking
- Alleviates pain caused by malocclusion
- Healthier teeth and gums
- Reduces risk of injury
- Less wear and tear
The Invisalign Treatment Process
If you are considering Invisalign, learning more about the whole process will help you feel confident in your decision.
Receive Your Aligners
Next, you will receive your series of custom-built aligners. Invisalign creates these trays specifically for your smile. The smooth, comfortable plastic will not irritate your cheeks or gums. The aligners are easy to remove when you eat, drink, or brush your teeth. With each set of aligners, your teeth gently shift into place.
Talk to an Invisalign Provider
As with every dental and orthodontic treatment, it is important to consult with a certified provider. After a brief consultation, we will evaluate your smile and determine how, and if, Invisalign can help. Dr. Dana Keith will also take X-rays, images, and impressions of your teeth. During this appointment, you should ask questions about costs, the procedure, or insurance.
Change Aligners Every Two Weeks
While we will determine the exact amount of time, you will likely change out your aligners every two weeks. You wear the trays for 20 to 22 hours every day. Occasional checkups will occur intermittently so we can check on the progress of your smile. Another benefit of Invisalign is that you can see the transformation of your teeth at every stage. Soon your smile will be complete.
Create A Specialized Treatment Plan
After your consultation, Invisalign creates a 3D digital image of the structures of your mouth. From this image, we will map out the precise movements of your teeth over the course of treatment. You will know how long treatment will take, how many aligners you will use, and how often you will have to check back with our office. You will be able to see a virtual representation of how your teeth will move.
Say Hello to Your New Smile
Complete treatment of your smile can take anywhere from 9 to 15 months, or longer. Once the procedure is completed, you will have a new smile to enjoy! At the end of your treatment, you will want to talk with our team about the best way to maintain your new smile. You may need comfortable retainers to help keep your teeth in their new positions.
