Dentures in Cloverly & Silver Spring, Maryland

Happy seniors couple in love. DenturesWhen people today think of dentures, they are typically reminded of the “false teeth” they remember their grandparents wearing, which had a noticeably unnatural appearance. Today, dentures have come a long way from the aforementioned mental image. It is quite common to have absolutely no idea that someone has dentures because of the perfectly natural-looking materials and colors used today. Using advanced computer technology to create completely custom dentures, we are able to ensure a fit that feels and looks completely natural and secure.

What are Dentures?

When you are missing some or all of your teeth, it is often recommended that you are fitted for either partial or full dentures. When you only have a few teeth missing, you will be fitted for partial dentures that will replicate real teeth to fill in the spaces. A removable partial denture or bridge usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base, which is connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. When all of your teeth are missing, you will be fitted for complete dentures that can replace your smile entirely.

How Are Dentures Made?

The denture development process takes about three to six weeks, as well as several appointments. Once your dentist or prosthodontist (a dentist who specializes in the restoration and replacement of teeth) determines what type of appliance is best for you, the general steps are to:

  • Make a series of impressions of your jaw and take measurements of how your jaws relate to one another, including how much space is between them.
  • Create models, wax forms, and/or plastic patterns in the exact shape and position of the denture to be made. You will “try on” a few different ones.
  • Cast a final denture.
  • Adjust as necessary.

What are the benefits to dentures instead of implants?

The first and most prominent benefit to dentures over implants is the fact that dentures are much more cost effective. Dentures are much less expensive than implants because there are fewer procedures necessary to prepare your mouth for dentures. In addition to the cost-saving benefit of dentures, another advantage is that they are completely removable. Being able to remove your teeth will make it much easier to clean and care for them. Another benefit to dentures over implants is that there will not be any pain with the installation of dentures as there is with implants.

What is the cost of dentures?

The cost of dentures can range from $500 to $2,500 per piece for the upper or lower arch. This price depends on the type and quality. In addition to the cost of the dentures, the fees and cost of labor usually range between $250 and $1000 per piece installed. Much of the cost of dentures is often covered by insurance; however, without insurance we can offer affordable payment plans that will fit your financial needs.
